And finally…

A British mystic who claims to have predicted Brexit using nothing but a tin bowl and a few sticks of asparagus has laid out her top predictions for 2018.

Bath-based Jemima Packington, 61, is a self-proclaimed ‘Asparamancer’ – a unique type of fortune teller who claims to be able to predict the future by throwing spears of asparagus into a metal bowl and closely examining the shapes they form.

“When I cast the asparagus, it creates patterns and it is the patterns I interpret,” she said.

Ms Packington believes that her unorthodox methods have previously been successful in predicting the outcome of the European Union (EU) referendum, the divorce of ex-footballer Jamie Redknapp and the extreme weather conditions experienced in some parts of the UK this January as a result of Storm Eleanor.

Following these successes, the unusual fortune teller – who has been dubbed ‘Mystic Veg’ by the media – has looked ahead into the future of 2018 and revealed her top predictions for the New Year.
Amongst many other things, she has predicted that:

  • Theresa May will be replaced as Prime Minister before the end of the year.
  • There will be “troubling times” for the royal family.
  • The Bitcoin bubble will burst.
  • 2018 will be a year of Oscar success for British films and actors.
  • “Dark clouds are ahead” for the USA.

“I have a very good success rate. I’ve been doing readings using asparagus since I was eight years old,” she said.

“I am usually about 80 to 90 per cent accurate with my predictions.”
